A Veterans memorial-internment of ashes will be held Friday, Feb. 19, at 3pm at Oceanview Cemetery for Denis Lee Boardman of Fort Bragg. A memorial service honoring him will be held Saturday, Feb. 20, 11am to 2pm at Lions Hall on Redwood Avenue.
Born on Jan. 23, 1948, to Perry and Beulah Boardman, Denis was murdered in his home in Fort Bragg on Jan. 2, 2016.
Denis graduated from Fort Bragg High School in 1966. In 1966, during the Vietnam War, he joined the Navy and served until 1970.
In 1967, he was married to Sharon Lea Valley. They had one child together, Laurel Boardman.
Denis lived most of his life in Fort Bragg and Boonville until his death. He enjoyed woodworking and fashioned a camper on the back of his red Chevrolet pick-up truck. He was often seen driving around town and watching the ocean with his best friend, his dog Bugsy.
Surviving members of his family include his daughter, Laurel Boardman; his sister, Lynn Cody; his sister-in- law, Shasta Boardman, and his niece, Cherie Joyner.
The family would like to thank the members of the Fort Bragg Police Department for their hard work and support in this difficult time and also the entire community of Fort Bragg for its support of a man who got a second chance in a place he called home.
