Wildfire South of Willits

Spotted at 4 this afternoon, dubbed Walker Fire.

Moderate rate of spread, oak woodland getting into timber.

Pine Mountain and Ridgewood subdivisions warned to prepare for evacuation.

UPDATES

4:50 pm: 20-25 acres, copters working on right flank, couple of structures threatened.

4:51 pm: Expect road closures in the area of Pine Mountain in Willits due to active fire suppression efforts currently underway. NO Evacuation Order(s) at this time. Avoid the area if at all possible. (Mendocino Sheriff)

5:39 pm: FIRIS has mapped the fire at 109 acres.

5:46 pm: Incident Command reports making progress, with forward progress of the fire slowed, and retardant lines across both shoulders of the fire. Working on a few spot fires.

6:31 pm: Forward progress of the fire has been stopped

7:23 pm: Road Closure at Ridgewood Road at East Side Road (Willits) has been lifted, road is now open.

9:06 pm: The wildland fire in the Pine Mountain area is downgraded from an Evacuation Warning to Situational Awareness.

10:28 pm: 25% containment. Will be working throughout the night to control containment lines.

10:31 pm: Highway 101 #2 northboard lane's guardrails still on fire. Going to let them burn out. Need engineer to check them out, until then hard closure on #2 lane.

    Nice photo, Mike. But it looks like nothing but firewood between you and that smoke if the wind shifts. Which reminds me to go check my evacuation gear and make sure everything is in order. Glad to see you on duty in these trying times. Keep the faith and soldier on!
