The long, searing drought in American politics has left an electorate so thirsty, the ‘right half’ is trying to fall into step behind Trump because he’s NOT SOUNDING SO MUCH LIKE A POLITICIAN. In a field of not- much-if-any, he may be talking poisonous blather, but he is saying SOMETHING, for a change. (and we know how ‘change’ sells elections…don’t we?) The point, I believe, if we’re interested in moving forward any appreciable distance, is: You can’t fight SOMETHING with NOTHING.

Donny has a towering ego and he believes everything he says – He is not one to play the role of a mole. He wants to be President.

Trump, himself, doesn’t concern me nearly as much as the nature of the support that his bombast is garnering. Though his polling numbers name him the frontrunner in a large field of GOP candidates, his supporters represent only 35% of the roughly 40% of voters registered as Republicans. In true numbers, it’s a rather small minority of the American populace. The troubling aspect of his support isn’t in the numbers, but in the face that it’s showing as a violently aggressive angry mob mentality which seems to suggest that the nation may be ripe for a transition from the softer, subtler free market fascism that we’ve endured for the last three to four decades to the more strong-armed style of a Mussolini. And while Trump will never create enough separation between himself and the image of clownish buffoonery that clings to his public persona to effectively lead the mobs that he stirs up, they, and the fear and ignorance that drives them, will not be going away any time soon. A shrewder, more charismatic demagogue may well step in to direct their irrational and misplaced rage. Historically, and for reasons that are difficult to identify, the reasonable and fair-minded majority inevitably fails to effectively counter these kinds of movements. I’m afraid that we’re moving towards some very dark times.

Well said, Mr. DeLang.
