As most AVA readers must know, mainline newspapers almost never get it right. Even when some journalist honestly reports what he sees, it’s always less than half the story. Further, it’s usually a thin soup of hearsay with lumps of flatout fabrication thrown in to spice it up. My own limited experience with Real motorcycle club members has been nothing but totally straightforward, and businesslike in ways you’d not wisely expect from some lawyer or insurance hack. Newsrags are famous for throwing anything they can dream up into a biker club story ’cause it sells the crap out of papers; biker clubs are famous precisely for having those same papers running at the mouth about them. As with most any topic, the realities of the subject here are both better and worse than what’s printed for public consumption by nearly any American ‘newspaper’ (present pages excepted, of course).

Yeah! The big whoop-d-doo about the recent rumble is typical. The lavishing of column-inches and endless footage on the trouble there, and not a flicker on the predations of the horrors unleashed by ‘our’ highly paid and porky-perked public servants. I guess the net upshot might be more faux justification for arming the crap out of everybody, plus specifically disregarding any hint of wrongdoing on high, ever.
Frightening folks.
