Ukiah Educators Honored at California Schoolmasters’ Club Annual Event
Ukiah—Two Mendocino County educators were honored Friday, March 7th at California Schoolmasters’ Club annual awards dinner in Napa. Since its founding in 1893, the California Schoolmasters' Club has sought to enrich and promote the education profession. Each year, they recognize and honor outstanding educators from Northern California. Nominations are submitted to the County Superintendent by district superintendents. Superintendent Tichinin selected one administrator and one teacher for recognition this year at the annual event which included a keynote address by former California Superintendent of Public Instruction Delaine Eastin. Erin Gardiner Armstrong, Director of Special Education, Ukiah Unified School District is this year’s Mendocino County Educator (Administrator) of the Year. Gardiner Armstrong has worked at Ukiah Unified since 1978 beginning as a teacher at Trinity School. In 1984 she moved to Nokomis as a Resource Specialist Teacher. She has been Director of Special Education at UUSD since 1996. Eric Crawford, Agriculture Science Teacher, Ukiah High School, is this year’s Mendocino County Teacher of the Year. Eric has been a teacher for 21 years and has taught at Ukiah High School as an MCOE employee since 1997. He teaches over 170 students daily and courses include Intro to Advanced Agricultural Science and Horticulture.
