I disagree with the plan to consolidate three county services — the libraries, the county museum, and parks — into one Cultural Services Agency. The reasons given for this plan seem rather limp, such as to “provide greater access across all demographics to information, cultural resources, etc.”

Giving Back: A Family’s Legacy

The Gowan name is known throughout our region for wonderful local apples and produce, so it does not come as a surprise that the history of Cecil and Alice (nee Studebaker) Gowan's family in Mendocino County is deep and rich. Both sets of Alice's grandparents moved to the Anderson Valley in the 1860's. Notably one of her grandfathers traded sixteen horses for his initial home property in Philo. Cecil's family moved to the Anderson Valley from Shelter Cove in 1902 when Cecil was 13.

I attended a fundraiser for Chris Skyhawk last Saturday evening at Lauren’s Restaurant. He is running for our 5th District Supervisor spot soon to be vacated by Dan ‘MIA’ Hamburg. Local bands Real Sarah’s, Ukeholics, and BoonFire performed sets, Angela DeWitt admirably hosted, and Mr. Skyhawk himself could not resist singing in-between the acts
