Letters (Oct. 18, 2017)

There is the suggestion that fires start with windblown trees breaking power lines. Our recent fire followed the path of the 1964 fire. When areas are rebuilt, it seems prudent to put all power lines underground.

Another mass shooting massacre. After Sandy Hook, I really believed something would be done regarding gun laws. Every time I hear a member of Congress say “my thoughts and prayers are with the families,” I feel like screaming. Actions speak louder than words.

Letters (Oct. 4, 2017)

We respectfully request that the Supervisors make a legal distinction between property owners who take an entire house off the rental market so that they can use it for "vacation rentals," and property owners who rent out a small cabin on the property they live on, or a room in the house in which they are living, to tourists.

Letters (Sep. 27, 2017)

I have a few questions about all of the water trucks delivering water to various prolific gardens around the county. Who’s water are they hauling? If from city wells and water districts, are they paying for it?

Letters (Sep. 20, 2017)

I live on the adjoining property to Maggy Hawk Vineyard (which is actually owned by Kendall Jackson) near Floodgate and they have been using propane noise cannons as a bird deterrent for a while but today was the worst I've heard. I have been subjected to it in years past.

Letters (Sep. 13, 2017)

I am writing to defend my friend, Peter Keegan, against the rumors and hearsay that have been floating around for years since the death of my friend, Susan Keegan. I have been a close family friend of the Keegans since they moved to Ukiah. We were next door neighbors for years. We were partners on a land purchase; we took vacations together and did all the things one does with close friends. I know Peter and I know that he would never kill his wife. For years I and many others have been silent at Peter’s request. Now we will speak.

A Week in the Picaresque Life of Tone Dogg

After a few short miles we got to my truck, Sally. Sally the suburban drinks the 5 gallons of gas that my pops brought with him. He wanted me to go home and lick my wounds but as I told you I'm stubborn. He got in my ’burb and left his truck where mine was. I lost a day somewhere. It's Saturday night by the time we made it back to Reggae on the River. I drove right in to storm the bridge to get in. The punk security guys blocked the bridge and surrounded me. They say I'm kicked off the property and can't get my stuff to make a civil lawsuit. I'm trying to talk to my night hog people but since I was talking shit to their fearless leader, some lame with a paint job we will call “Timbo,” they didn't want to lose their jobs with the Mateel. I get it.

As cannabis stumbles toward legalization in California, it seems like almost everyone's grown ganja this year. New plants appeared where there once were none, greenhouses mushroomed, and many older patches seemed to double or triple in size. For now, water trucks continue making their daily pilgrimages, and ramshackle fences strain to shield our eyes from the glorious green bounty, but as harvest time rolls in all indicators point to an unprecedented surplus of Cali-ka-zowie this year.

Letters (Aug. 30, 2017)

Why does our county require an onerous use permit for short term rentals on shared roads, when it does not require a use permit for commercial cannabis cultivation on shared roads? This is an issue of significant interest to the citizens of Mendocino County.
