Several 3-Dot regulars remain disappointed, and a little hungry, because three Valley restaurants remain “closed for the holidays.” Aquarelle, Stone and Embers, and Libby’s. However, The Buckhorn is open everyday except Tuesday, while Lauren’s is closed on Sunday and Monday only. The Hotel is open for dinner at the weekend and Coq au Vin Thursday thru Monday from 6pm each day.

Welcome to 2015 and may it be happy and healthy for all of you. Made any New Year’s Resolutions? These are difficult to maintain of course and perhaps we should not put too much pressure on ourselves. As Benjamin Franklin wisely once advised, “Resolve to perform what you ought to do; then perform without fail what you have resolved.” Easy right? Anyway, that’s your Quote of the Week.
It’s the amateur party-go’ers Big Night Out of the Year: New Year’s Eve! That’s fine of course, but I encourage others to try and enjoy the festivities too, and wherever and with whomever you may find yourselves. If someone is behaving badly, then just smile and walk away. You know it makes sense. Meanwhile, may I wish you much happiness and good health for 2015 and thank you for your continued support.
Having frequently witnessed the white-bearded grin of AVA Mighty Leader, Bruce Anderson, and heard his jolly laughter on many occasions, I am unable to get over the thought that the red-coated stranger who struggles to come down our Valley chimneys in the early hours of December 25 may not actually be Santa Claus. Now that’s something to ponder as you go to bed this evening.
Isn’t it around this time that the “Thirteen Days of Christmas” begin? And how come we almost never sing about the 13th day? You know, the one that goes “On the thirteenth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me, thirteen Turkey Vultures preying,” arguably the most moving line of all.
Many people in the Valley who have chickens no doubt have their “horror” stories of their coops being invaded by various creatures that manage to get inside and then devour the defenseless brood. Well any such critters who may be thinking about making an “attack” on the plump and healthy looking chickens at Penny Royal Farm at the south end of Boonville will have to come up with quite a master plan to overcome the veritable “Chicken Castle” that has been built there alongside Hwy 128.
The Redwood Classic high school basketball tournament, hosted by our local high school for nearly 60 years, starts today. So for all that is good about high school sports, plus plenty of excitement, head down to the gym in Boonville where the games come thick and fast over four days, with the Championship game on Saturday evening.
