FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
On Sunday, August 3, 2014, an incident occurred on the Comptche Road resulting in the need to replace up to 12,000 feet of fiber optic cable. This cable is the primary source of telephonic transfer information for much of the coastal community in Mendocino County.
The loss of this cable has impacted the County of Mendocino’s ability to issue Electronic Benefit Cards commonly referred to as an EBT card, further it has impacted the ability of some of the community members in the coastal area to access their benefits.
There are two types of benefits these cards are used for; CalWORKs or cash assistance and CalFresh. To address this problem, Social Services will reissue benefits available to community members through alternate methods. Community members will need to come in to the local office located at 764 S. Franklin Street.
CalWORKs benefits will be reissued via a check upon request. CalFresh benefits will be made available through a voucher to local approved vendors.
Community members can call the Ukiah office at 707-463-7773 with any questions.
