Welcome to Flypaper--a blog of observations. 
Here's what you can expect in the coming months: a mix of reflections on culture and politics—mostly local, though also beyond Mendoland—and reporter's-notebook style pieces derived from larger projects I'm reporting for the newspaper. The latter will cover a range of subjects.
With that, a quick note before we get started: If you attempt to visit our site and find yourself staring at the bust of a young, wiry Sri Lankan named Thangarajah Thavaruban--instead of the AVA masthead--don't be alarmed!
Thang appears to be a perfectly nice computer whiz who likes blue, Singapore, soft lighting, Subash Chandrabose and nifty slogans ("East or West Home is Best").
Next time, just remember to type that "e" in "theAVA.com"
