The AV Elementary School Art Show is currently on display at Lauren’s Restaurant in Boonville. Local artist Chris Bing has done a fine job teaching art this past school year and his creative display of the children's work is equally wonderful. The exhibit runs until July 6, so try to get in to see it soon. Birds are flying all around the restaurant!

The third weekend in June is upon us, and for the past decade in Boonville that means the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival kicks off in the fairgrounds Friday evening and runs through Sunday evening.…
THE BOONVILLE GRADUATION drew a large crowd for Anderson Valley, the largest I've seen. Children of Mexican immigrants made up a large majority of the graduates, and the Mexicans turned out in force. The class of 2014 struck me as serious, mature even, especially for high school kids, perhaps because Mexican kids, in the Anderson Valley anyway, are raised in strong, intact families solidly aware of the decadent seductions presented by their adopted country and have worked to inoculate their young against them.
BRIAN MURPHY chips in another drought indicator: “California buckeyes are a good indicator of soil moisture as they shut down and drop their leaves to preserve themselves when soil moisture reaches low levels. The buckeyes are still flowering at the same time as they are starting to shut down and drop their leaves.” Looking around at The Valley's buckeyes, they're in full flower.
We are sad to report that the Pronsolino Ranch on Signal Ridge loaded up their flock of sheep and drove them away for the last time this past week. After ninety years Angelo Pronsolino has called time on the shepherding days of his family’s ranch that they purchased in 1923. While it is believed that Angelo, Eileen, and the family celebrated their “retirement” with a glass of wine, I am sure there was more than a tint of sadness at the passing of an era. Great job, Angelo!
At 5:16am the Boy Scout Camp, Navarro, reported a “combative, hallucinogenic (sic) patient. A 500-person “juggling fair” was underway at the Camp. We suspect, however, a rave whose alleged 500 attendees were juggling ecstasy, some of which they just happened to ingest, hence the combative, hallucinating juggler.
A mountain lion was apparently spotted chasing a deer near to the Ranger Station in Hendy Woods last week. It’s nothing to really worry about, after all county trapper Gary Johnson tells me that if the lion wants to end your days, because of their stealth and killing skills you will never even know about it, the beast will have done the job in the blink of an eye. Yes, you’ll be admiring the wonderful trees, and the next second you’ll be a gooey mess on the forest floor. Good to know.
