Bird’s Eye View (Oct 8, 2014)

I have been a little remiss by not always including the various AV Foodshed events in the column so here are some for the month of October. This Friday, October 10, Fri Oct 10. Paysanne Ice Cream in Boonville offers a free small coffee with any local crepe; the Buckhorn, Boonville features some local food dinners on the menu; and there is an AV Community Farm Benefit at 18500 Lambert Lane from 5pm-midnight. Lauren’s Restaurant and Mosswood Market have a number of local food specials throughout the month and the AV Framer’s Market continues on Saturday mornings in the Boonville Hotel parking lot from 10am-12.30pm, although they will move across the street to the Boonville General Store from November 1 for the winter months. That’ll do for now.

Panther Soccer (Oct 8, 2014)

Following the huge disappointment of last week’s 1-2 loss against St. Vincent’s, it would be a challenge for the team to bounce back to winning ways. One way to perhaps raise spirits would be to…

Panther Soccer (Oct 1, 2014)

Despite the Valley’s first “proper” rain for several months hitting Boonville around kick-off time last Wednesday (Sept 24), it was clear that the Panthers were far more concerned with the impending match against Roseland Prep,…

Valley People (Oct 1, 2014)

AV FOOTBALL is 5-0 this season so far and is ranked 130 in the nation, 9th in the state. Prior to Saturday's game against Rincon Valley Christian, which we won (76-40), the team was ranked…

Bird’s Eye View (Oct 1, 2014)

I have often thought that telling ourselves and each other what a wonderful community we have here in the Valley is something that is certainly true but, if repeated over and over, perhaps a little too self-congratulatory, and almost smug in my humble, and some might say, curmudgeonly opinion. I feel that simply knowing it, enjoying it, feeding off it, and adding to it, without frequently “shouting it from the rooftops,” no matter how true it may be, is a more agreeable way to enjoy and celebrate this undoubted gift we as a community possess.

Valley People (Sep 24, 2104)

CONNOISSEURS of wacky public meetings might want to attend the Health Center’s meetings as its overlarge board of trustees goes all sphinx on locals trying to pry info out of them. This is what happens: The locals “vent” as the trustees look back at them as if they’re not there. The eight sphinxes don’t look angry or amused or haughty or anything at all other than blindly disinterested. It’s weird, and twice as weird when you know that the 8 Health Center sphinxes have known everyone in the audience for many years. It would be as if your family and friends suddenly began looking at you as if you weren’t there. Kinda eerie, actually, like out of a horror movie.

Happy Anniversary!

The Anderson Valley Foodshed is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year! As the importance of eating and producing local food grows incrementally, so do the hands-on activities of the Foodshed. The 9th annual C’mon Home…
