Roughly 1,000 rural Sonoma County residents overflowed classrooms and small meeting chambers at five informational sessions convened by the State Water Resources Control Board. It would be hard to exaggerate many attendees' outrage. At one meeting, two men got in a fistfight over whether to be “respectful” to the state and federal officials on hand.
The Mendocino Air Quality Control Board made a terrible mistake on Aug. 28 when it rejected the Friends of Outlet Creek’s appeal of the Air Board’s decision to allow the Grist Creek Aggregates to open an asphalt plant in Longvale — without at full CEQA review and a new environmental impact report. Labor Day weekend is virtually upon us and while it’s not the “Mother of All Holidays” (that is obviously Thanksgiving), it is still a pretty good one as we celebrate the economic and social achievements of workers. Labor Day has its origins in the labor union movement, specifically the eight-hour day movement, which advocated eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest – seems about fair, although personally I continue to question the eight hours for work part.
