Christian Foley-Beining Group
The Christian Foley-Beining Group began in 2011 out of love and respect for the music of Pat Metheny and the Beatles. When Christian met Todd Smith who plays a 6-string electric fretless bass, it was immediately obvious that they both shared the same passion for Metheny’s music. Through Christian’s use of chord melody, electronic technologies, and Todd’s approach to using chord accompaniment on bass, they managed to integrate Metheny’s full arrangements into a duo. Their repertoire quickly grew and soon they began adding Beatle’s tunes. With the Beatles songs Christian took a different approach. Instead of copying their music, he wrote many original arrangements in a jazz style, taking care not to lose the essence of the originals. Shortly after talented professional drummer Tom Hayashi joined and the current trio was formed. In addition to drums, Tom is proficient with piano, bass, and a variety of percussion instruments.
