On Sunday May 25 at 3 pm, Tierney Sutton will be performing with her band at Mendocino College as the final concert of Ukiah Community Concerts' 2013-14 season.
The New York Times has called Tierney Sutton“A serious jazz artist who takes the whole enterprise to another level.”
A 6-time Grammy Nominee as both a recording artist and arranger, Sutton is often described as as a “musician’s singer” who uses her voice like an instrument.
Most recently, Tierney received her 5th consecutive Grammy Nomination for “Best Jazz Vocal Album” for her latest project, “After Blue,” an intimate, jazz-inspired re-imagining of the legacy of Joni Mitchell.
“Each member has a more or less equal say. . . Above it all flies Ms. Sutton’s flexible voice, which she wielded with a fearless adventurousness.” --Stephen Holden, New York Times
Playing in her band will be bassist Kevin Axt, a Ukiah native.
Mendocino College is at 1000 Helmsley Creek Road, just north of Ukiah.
