JERRY PHILBRICK HAS DIED, passing away at his Comptche home in his sleep. A native son of Mendocino County, Jerry Philbrick was a logger and rancher, and among the most vivid personalities in this area. A man of fierce opinions forcefully expressed, 'Philbrick,' as he was universally known, was also an unusually kind and generous man who, for many years, did much private good for a wide range of people, especially young people involved in athletics. (More to come with tonight's posts)
I’m saddened with by news, Jerry was a great patriot and all around good fellow.

He was one of Mendocino County’s biggest 49er fans as well. He often just gave away his season ticket seats to friends for Niner games. I was able to to take my son to see Joe Montana at Candlestick and Jerry refused to take money. He wanted to create some joy for a young kid. He may have been irascible on the outside, but he had a heart of gold.
Did you ever hear the story about the flare gun during a game against Chicago on Monday Night Football?
Hey George…there was more than one flare. The best one was against the Cowboys…I was there. Michael Irvin ran through a cloud of smoke for a Dallas TD.
“49er”?
How did that name survive the purge?
Because there are too many wealthy people whose lineage began with couplings between 49ers and whores.
Mr. Kittle,
What you talking about, the white wine quiche eaters era?
Happy Christmas

In like fashion I linked to a video of Hank Williams’ “The Old Log Train” (didn’t pass the censor).
My unwelcome but factual comments are often censored, but this one is somewhat surprising.
Maybe the editor takes a perverse pleasure in randomly censoring me, and I suppose I ought to be magnanimous in providing him a fleeting sense of power.
