Letters (June 13, 2018)

Your coverage on cannabis is tilted in an extremely negative direction, no pretense of objectivity, and you don't make up for the imbalance by including coverage from critics like me. Am I too radical? My work is as vital as the professor's.

Letters (June 6, 2018)

I am highly concerned regarding the direction the Measure B committee is taking. I was asked last year to support Measure B. I was told the process would start with identifying what services are needed and then move on to what type of facility to build.

Mendocino Coast District Hospital serves a population which is mostly Medicare, Medicaid or uninsured. Privately insured patients are rare. Reimbursement rates are set by the feds and cannot be changed to reflect actual cost of services provided. The hospital has to stay staffed regardless of how many beds are filled. This is why rural hospitals are closing. They’re not being paid according to cost and they have no power to be so paid. It’s not due to improper management!

The Headlands overlook has gone corporate and maintenance ignored for 20 years.

Recently the Trail was opened up, cleared of brush — overkill. So the clean-up is immense and needs a lot of help!

Are there any next generation people who agree that this property wants to be used by many for all to enjoy forever?

We need a Gualalan in Ukiah. County government is Ukiah-focused and seems predatory in its taxing and department policies. They seem to be desperate for money. Like hearing a spoiled child crying for a bigger allowance, we have to ask the question, "What are you doing with the money we gave you?"

Letters (May 9, 2018)

One clear attack on American democracy has been the removal of our polling places coupled with mandatory mail-in balloting for those wishing to vote. What has this achieved? Not greater voter turnout, not a reduced department budget, and not greater vote counting efficiency. Just the opposite. Voter turnout is down. Election costs are up. And election night Americana in Mendo has been stolen.

Letters (May 2, 2018)

There is nothing more precious to the look and feel of a town than open space. People don't come to an area to see shopping malls and dented canned goods stores. They want the solace and beauty of open spaces. So many of our visitors come from crowded, ugly strip mall infested towns and cities.

Letters (April 25, 2018)

I disagree with the plan to consolidate three county services — the libraries, the county museum, and parks — into one Cultural Services Agency. The reasons given for this plan seem rather limp, such as to “provide greater access across all demographics to information, cultural resources, etc.”

Letters (April 18, 2018)

Since Michelle Hutchins, our current superintendent at Anderson Valley Unified School District, is running for Mendocino County Superintendent of Schools, we feel it is necessary to provide the community with some information. The teachers and support staff of Anderson Valley Unified have issued a Vote of No Confidence with the AVUSD Board of Directors.
