Madge Gibson

 Madge Day Gibson passed away peacefully at her home in Brunswick Village Assisted Living Community, Nevada City, on August 11. She was 90.

Memorial services for Mrs. Gibson will be held Saturday, August 29, 2009 at 2pm at Hooper and Weaver Mortuary, 459 Hollow Way, Nevada City.

Mrs. Gibson was born to Glen and Ethel Mae Day in Breeze, Illinois, on February 13, 1919. She graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from Wayne State University and completed nurse's training at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit.

Mrs. Gibson served as a 2nd lieutenant in the United States Army during World War II. She spent the war years as an Army nurse in Recife, Brazil, retiring from the service in 1945 to raise her family.

Mrs. Gibson worked as a registered nurse for more than 20 years. She moved to Grass Valley in 1997 from Boonville in Mendocino County and was an avid volunteer for many local charities, and a 30-year member of the American Red Cross. Mrs. Gibson also belonged to the Veterans Association, the American Legion and Calvary Bible Church.

She is survived by Tim, Sandy, Renee and Michael Alexander, and Guy, Joni, Rocky and Whitney Alexander, Mary Alexander, six great-grandchildren and one niece.

The Alexander family is grateful to the staff of Brunswick Village and Hospice for the wonderful care given to Mrs. Gibson during her last days.
