Richard H. ‘Dick’ Sand

Richard Hunter 'Dick' Sand of Boonville died on Sunday, August 16, 2009. He was born March 26, 1935 in the state of Maine.

Mr. Sand was a retired heavy equipment operator for CalTrans.

Mr. Sand was justly proud of his abilities as an accomplished ballroom dancer, a swing band drummer, his experience as a heavy equipment operator, and his appointment as driver of the Anderson Valley Senior Citizen's Bus.

Mr. Sand's family and his many friends will remember him for always having something funny to say, and also for his great jokes, and his uncanny ability to apply apt nick names for local people. He and his late wife Lovella were involved in many Anderson Valley activities and events, sport programs, the 4-H club and the Junior Basketball Panthers. Mr. Sand's children have fond memories of their dad teaching them how to dance.

Mr. Sand is survived by his daughter Michele Yeoman of Mendocino; son Michael and his wife Teresa Sand of Hidden Valley Lake, California; grandson Mathew and wife Bridget Sand; granddaughter Tiffany and husband Destry Hendrix; great granddaughter Isabella; step sisters Eva Johnson of Boonville; and Ethel Abreu of Cloverdale; half sister Donna Kozac of Arizona; half brother Fred Throne of Hawaii; and his cousin Lillian Shrieve of Philo. Sand; his mother Mona Throne; his father Donald Throne; his sister Virginia Presley, and his adoptive mother and father Walter and Evelyn Sand and step father Fred Abreu.
